Jose Quinones- Senior Counselor

My name is Jose, and I’m here to share my testimony of God’s power. Throughout my life, I have not only witnessed but also participated in the devil's work. I grew up in Vineland, NJ, in a challenging neighborhood. My parents did their best to keep me at home, but their efforts were in vain. We all know the nature of a caged animal: the moment it's free, it runs.

When my parents started working night shifts, leaving my sister in charge, I saw my opportunity. I first got involved with rap music and worldly television, then sought acceptance among peers at our apartment complex. Initially, I started with sips of alcohol and smoking cigarettes, opening up a whole new world for me. Soon, I found myself on street corners, selling drugs and engaging in immoral activities.

I never believed marijuana was a gateway drug until I was about 16. One day, while passing a joint with friends, a church bus pulled up. Following a friend, I boarded the bus, only to find it was headed to a church service. There, the youth pastor spoke of God's love and Jesus' sacrifice. His words stirred something in me, bringing a sense of conviction for my past actions. He spoke about repentance and salvation, and that day, I accepted Christ into my life.

However, my journey didn't end there. It became a spiritual battle, particularly a battle of the mind. Despite God's Spirit within me, my flesh craved worldly pleasures. I continued to rebel, but God was persistent. His presence and conviction followed me even in my sinful moments, reminding me of that transformative night at the church service.

After many mistakes, I found my way to Mission Teens in Norma, NJ. Walking through its doors, I felt God's love like never before. It gave me hope and a sense of belonging to God's family. I stand as a testament to God’s faithfulness, who never abandoned me despite my failures and blessed me even when I felt undeserving.

The Lion’s Den has been a significant blessing too. God graced me with a new family of believers, who understand the struggle and God's goodness. He blessed me with a wonderful wife and three amazing children, for whom I am immensely grateful.

In conclusion, I give all praise, honor, and glory to our Father in Heaven. No longer will I let my flesh dictate my path. In Christ, I have redemption and forgiveness through His grace. He has revealed His will to me, uniting all things in Him. I am empowered to do all things through Christ who strengthens me, ready for anything with the inner strength, confidence, and peace He provides.
